About The Project

The “Ballard Seafood Festival” is a branding and promotional design-based project as well as a love letter to Ballard, its tasty seafood, and the wonderful people who live there. It’s a design concept where festivity merges with creativity, coming together to express one of Seattle’s most cherished traditions.

This project began as a series of illustrative posters designed to encapsulate the essence of the Ballard Seafood Festival. It entailed the creation of visuals that embody Ballard’s genuine and eclectic culture, expressing the festival’s vibrancy, energy, live music and, naturally, the seafood. These initial illustration efforts evolved into an extensive graphic design project, incorporating branding elements that align with the festival’s identity, and packaging design for items found at the fantastic festival.

The objective of these branding efforts was to evoke the vibrancy of the Ballard Seafood Festival and create harmony between all of its promotional material. The logo’s design objectives were threefold: to depict the iconic Ballard Locks and with imagery symbolizing fluctuating water levels; to represent the festival’s live music with a musical note; and to include a flag, an emblem that perfectly captures the dynamic spirit of any festival.

The color scheme was carefully curated to evoke the freshness, excitement of the sea, and the vibrancy of summer while the illustrations add a funky, playful, and approachable vibe aimed to resonate with festival-goers of all ages. The typefaces were chosen for their readability and contrast, complementing the visuals and reinforcing the festival’s identity. Together, these elements create a cohesive and memorable brand and promotional experience that captures the spirit of Ballard’s rich seafood heritage and the community’s lively character.
